Wheatland
Home of President James Buchanan
Wheatland, located in Lancaster Pennsylvania, was home to Pennsylvania's only President, James Buchanan.Tall, stately, stiffly formal in the high stock he wore around his jowls, he was the only President who never married. Born into a well-to-do Pennsylvania family in 1791, Buchanan, a graduate of Dickinson College, was gifted as a debater and learned in the law. In March 1861 he retired to his Pennsylvania home, Wheatland, where he died seven years later.
In February 2005, one of the double parlors received a reproduction wallpaper. This paper, blockprinted by Adelphi Paperhangings, was generated from an original stretch of the room. Eventually, the mirror parlor, will also receive a reproduction wallpaper. The following photos proceed from installation to the finish room.
